Ackerman Family Award

The Ackerman Family Award, previously called the G. Randle Ackerman Scholarship Award, was established in 1989 following the untimely death of Randy Ackerman, a beloved teacher and athletic director at Hopewell Valley High School in Pennington, NJ.  The award is intended to annually honor a graduating student-athlete from the school who has embodied Randy's ideals in their athletic and extracurricular pursuits.  The award has been funded until now by a charitable organization which itself was funded primarily by donations from the general public.

With the recent passing of Randy’s widow Barbara, and after discussions with the school, we are now seeking additional donations that will enable the award to be sustained in future years.  The new donations will be paid directly to the Hopewell Valley Regional School District, which in turn is setting up a segregated account that will be earmarked for the future award disbursements.  The modest amount of funds remaining in the existing charitable organization will be donated directly to the school district as well.
