Acorn needs surgery!
Donation protected
3/24 update: she's been home since Saturday morning! The surgery went well. She's got a long long recovery to go, lots of ice/heat, massage, and PT. She's very clingy and on lots of drugs. I can't express how helpful every donation of any amount was. Made my stress a lot less. Still a long way to go, but hopefully all moving forward now (and hopefully no new tear).
3/21 update: I dropped her off in Byron at 7:45 this morning for surgery. They called me at 1:30 to say it all went as planned! I'll pick her up at 8:30am tomorrow, and she'll have 6ish weeks of pretty strict rest (lots of sedatives) and some rehab/PT. 10 days out she'll get staples out. Then more X-rays and a slow build to play for 6 more weeks or more after that. And we all cross our fingers that she doesn't tear the other knee.
3/14 Update: Acorn is having surgery on Friday 3/21. They'll keep her there overnight, and I'll pick her up Saturday morning. She'll be in bed rest for 6 weeks after that and then slowly return to activity for another 6 weeks. It's gonna be tough - she is terrible at resting, I'll probably be medicating her every 8 hours with three sedatives like I did for heart worm.
Hey all,
As you may or may not know, my dog, Acorn, and I have had some ups and down since I adopted her a few years ago. (Including but not limited to heartworm, dog bites, and skin grafts.) Our newest hurdle is that she tore a cruciate ligament in her leg (think an ACLin humans) and needs a several thousand dollar surgery, 2-3 months of bed rest and rehab, and will very likely tear her other leg's ligament within the next 2 years.
I've done pretty well at handling previous emergencies, but this one is causing me serious distress. Any and all help is welcome.
I really appreciate the love and support of you all and those who talked me into doing this.
More details:
My vet told me to expect surgery for one leg to cost $5.5k (so $11000 if she needs a second surgery) even without the meds and consults and whatnot.
I found a vet that does the surgery for about $3000, but we have to do another consult there first (that will be this Friday) and they are about 90 minutes away.
My goal is set to $5k for the additional cost of follow ups, X-rays, meds, whatever. (Not to mention the potential second surgery)
