Acres of Hope - Women's Shelter
Tax deductible
Acres of Hope is a two-year, faith-based residential program in Auburn for women and children coming out of homelessness. They offer a ‘hands-up’ approach and equip their residents with the skills they need to be successful outside of their program. While in their care, they pay off their debts, finish schooling, establish savings, enroll their children in child care, take part in parenting classes, attend counseling and group meetings, secure a vehicle, gain housing, and completely transform their lives to break the cycles of homelessness, addiction, and poverty. Trauma-informed care is provided to their youngest residents since they too have been through a lot and also need guidance and encouragement.
While Andrew grew up only familiar with its name because it was a charity near and dear to the beloved Laura Tyrrell, he and I have come to deeply admire the organization's approach. Rather than simply offering monetary relief or a “hand out,” Acres of Hope empowers women with a "hand up," guiding them towards self-sufficiency and helping them find fulfillment and stability on their own terms. This local operation has changed the lives of so many and is making a huge impact locally in Placer County.
