Riding Across Alberta for Refugees

Donation protected
Hey guys!

Who? So my name is Bashir, I am an avid cyclist who commutes to work everyday by bike. Cycling is something I love and is a very special passion of mine.

Who cares? I will be doing the 160km route of the Tour de L'Alberta! This is the longest route and will take me from Morinville through Westlock, Legal, the Edmonton Garrison, and St. Albert. In total, the route will be completed in one day and take just over 8 hours to complete. The route.

Why? I am raising funds for the NGO Teach North Korean Refugees (TNKR). This NGO is based in Seoul and gives free English language lessons for North Korean refugees. You can find out more about them here:

So what's your goal? I aim to raise $540.

Why $540?

Let me break it down.

The typical refugee chooses three tutors. The refugee meets with each tutor atleast twice a month for three months.  The total cost averages at around $10 per session (room booking, learning material, etc).

For a 3 month course, it will cost between $180 per refugee per 3 months of studying.

So $540 could subsidize the cost of the program for three eager learners.

Now I forgot to mention something very important....

All funds will be matched!

The Atlas foundation, located in Washington D.C., has agreed to match the funds up to $25,000. So if we meet our goal then we end up allowing for six refugees to enjoy the three month program.

Note: The foundation has a four star rating on charity navigator

Stay connected!

I will be updating my training and progress on this page as I prepare for the tour. I have just over a month so I have a lot ahead of me!
