Hello, my name is Jillian Lucero and I am a teacher at Carlos Rey Elementary School (CRES) in Albuquerque, NM. Thank you for taking the time to read this story. My husband, Christopher Lucero, and I are raising funds to help the family of Lynn Otero, her three granddaughters, Destinie Otero, Brina and Corizma Sierra, and Lynn's lifelong partner, Linda Manzanares. Lynn, Linda, Brina, and Corizma were all involved in a horrific rollover crash on I-25 south of Socorro, New Mexico, on Saturday, April 16, 2022.
Sadly, Lynn (63), Brina's and Corizma's grandmother, and adoptive guardian, was fatally injured and was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident. Brina (13) sustained significant damage to her right wrist that will need further medical care, surgery, and treatment. Linda (53) sustained bruising and trauma to the head, and was diagnosed with a concussion. Corizma (14) suffered serious bodily injuries including; fractures to multiple vertebraes in her back, a fractured collar bone, fractured fingers, severe head trauma, a partially detached ear, multiple lacerations to her face and hands, and multiple broken teeth. Corizma is being treated at the University of New Mexico Children’s Hospital, in Albuquerque, for her injuries.
I was more than just a techer to Brina and Corizma while they were students at CRES. My husband and I were personal and close friends to them and their entire family. Upon hearing of this devastating and sad news, my husband and I, along with the greater CRES school community, immediately realized we needed to facilitate and organize a fundraiser quickly to help support the family during this very difficult time.
100% of the funds will be used to help the surviving family members with alleviating the financial burden and stress from this tragedy including:
- medical and health related expenses (i.e., surgeries, hospital admissions, rehabilitation services, etc.) for Corizma and Brina;
- memorial and funeral expenses for Lynn Otero; and last,
- groceries, gas, and any other daily and unexpected expenses that may arise for Brina, Corizma, Destinie, and Linda during this difficult time in their lives.
