Adam Goetz: Mission Possible

Adam was skiing in Tahoe with friends. On the way to the airport for their return trip to Seattle, they had a weather-related car crash. Adam was a belted backseat passenger and sustained multiple internal organ injuries-- liver, kidney and bowel damage, a punctured lung and broken ribs On top of that he sustained a severe ankle injury and a spinal fracture causing paralysis below the waist. He has undergone multiple surgeries, and while most have been successful he has not regained the ability to use his legs.

Throughout two weeks of surgeries and the beginning of healing, Adam's incredible spirit was evident. He was soon the favorite of the nurses and staff at the hospital, making them laugh while demonstrating perseverance.

When he was able to move to rehab, ALL of his caretakers came to wish him well and tell him they would be checking on his progress.

As I write this, Adam is in rehab learning to be self-sufficient. Once again his positive attitude and spirit have the staff loving to work with him. He has three goals:

1. Get home to his golden retriever, Stella ( Seattle, WA)

2. Go back to work

3. Adam, Andrew and some friends have tickets to see John Summit at Red Rock in May. He now needs ADA tickets -- and he is working to get them so he doesn't miss the concert.

Adam is a person who has great enthusiasm for living He is not going to let anything stop him.

Adam will need adaptations and accommodations to insure he can be as independent as possible. Examples: ongoing physical and occupational therapy, zero-entry shower, ramps, wheel-chair, handrails, a lift, orthotics, etc. We all know insurance will never cover these needs.

Let's make sure Adam can attain his short-term goals and help him live life to the fullest extent.
