Help Support the McHugh Family
Donation protected
This account is being set up in memory of Adam McHugh to help support his family as they face this difficult time. Adam fought a very short battle with cancer. Adam was not only an active-duty soldier but the husband of Chelsea and the father of two children, a 12-year-old daughter and a seven-year-old son. The McHugh family live in Pensacola Florida where Adam was currently stationed at Corry Station. Adam had been in the Army for the past 16 years serving our country. Adam had plans to one day retire from the Army and become an Instructor for the DOD Defense courses. However, those dreams are now gone.
On August 1st, 2023, Adam and his family's life were changed forever. At 36 years old, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Peripheral T-cell Lymphoma Not otherwise specified. Adam and Chelsea were informed by the oncologist on August 7th that this was an extremely aggressive type of cancer but to be hopeful because most aggressive cancers respond to chemotherapy very well. They even went as far as driving to Texas for a second opinion from MD Anderson coming back with the same results.
Adam started chemotherapy on August 14, 2023, but unfortunately Adam only responded for one treatment and then the cancer mutated. Adam tried a total of three different types of chemotherapies, and unfortunately, none of them were effective. In the middle of October, they did another bone marrow biopsy and determined the cancer had spread to over 90% of Adam's body and was growing rapidly. There were sadly no other treatments that Adam could try due to his blood levels being so critical. Adam and Chelsea were told since they arrived at the hospital in the beginning of October that he was going to die from the chemotherapy, but he continued to live and fight to stay with his family as long as he could. He fought hard for 52 days in the hospital to extend any time left that he could get to be with his wife and children. Chelsea had to fight with nurses and doctors almost every single day to stop telling her she needed to send him to hospice because she would ask him every day if he wanted to keep fighting and his answer was always yes. She made a promise to him that she would fight every moment for him, and she did even when so many people were telling her to give up. Adam was reliant on blood transfusions in order to stay alive and going on hospice meant no more blood transfusions. If he would have stopped, he would have passed within a few days, and they wouldn’t have the great memories that they were able to create even being stuck in a hospital room.
Unfortunately, Adam lost his battle with cancer on Friday November 24, 2023, the day after Thanksgiving.
The purpose of this GoFundMe is to help support Chelsea and the children. Chelsea is a stay-at-home mom and substitute teacher. Chelsea has not worked this school year in order to be right next to Adams' side fighting. This account will be used to offset any expenses that she cannot cover until she gets up on her feet. No young mother and children should ever have to watch their husband and father battle such a horrific disease, at such a young age.
We are beyond grateful for any donations that anyone would like to send to Chelsea and the kids to help support them through this tragic situation.
