Adam Powell Tonnya Gorrell and family fire relief
Donation protected
I am an old friend with Adam. He and his family just endured a house fire and they could really use anyone's help at this time. I have included his post from FB. Thank you in advance for anything you can do to help this family right before the holidays:
Friends....thank you. The outpouring of kindness has been amazing. Tonnya and I have received many messages and calls of people reaching out. If we have not gotten back to you, we will. We’re trying. It’s nonstop. We very much appreciate everything and everyone reaching out. Please feel free to share.
The house itself is most likely a total loss due to the extensive damage. Tyler, Charlie, and Tristan lost everything that they own. Their rooms burned and were destroyed. Lilly can salvage some things but with the smoke damage and high temperatures that her bedroom reached there won’t be much. Tonnya and I can salvage some things from our bedroom. The fire did not reach the bedroom. The smoke damage is extreme in every area of the house. We were very blessed to all make it out alive according to the fire Marshall. He said this was a very hot and fast fire. The cause of the fire was electrical that started in a lamp or extension cord. Side note: DO NOT USE CFL BULBS. The fire Marshall believes this may be the cause. It will be investigated further to determine the cause next week.
The dogs are fine. They got out when we got out. Four cats were missing. Leia perished in the fire. I’m having a hard time with this since she was always pretty much my cat and I had to see her after she was gone. She will be buried today. Two cats have been found that escaped: Stella and Daisy. We are still missing Rusty. We love him and hope he comes home. We have been searching for him and will continue. Lilly lost her fish and hermit crabs. Tyler lost his fish.
To put the icing on the cake, the insurance company will not replace or pay for anything for Tonnya, Tyler, or Tristan since I did not notify them that she had moved in. I am mainly worried about the house. Everything else can be replaced over time.
We are staying at a hotel in Zanesville for the time being. The house will likely have to be gutted and rebuilt or bulldozed and rebuilt from the ground up. The structural integrity has been completely compromised and it is not safe to walk in some areas of the upstairs. We won’t be able to return for at least 8-12 months.
We are in need and we appreciate any help. Food, clothing, gift cards for food. We really need dressers right now too. I’m trying to find someone to start a gofundme in case anyone would like that as an option. I’ve had many people asking. I don’t want anyone to feel obligated, but any help is appreciated. Here are the kids’ clothing sizes:
Tyler
XXL 18 boys shirt or small men’s
14-16 husky pants
Charlie
Same as Tyler.
Lilly
Medium women’s shirt
Jeans size 0-2 or 16 in juniors
Tristan
7 in jeans
Shirt: medium women’s
I am including a picture of Rusty as well. If anyone sees him, please reach out to me immediately.
Thank you again for all of the continued kindness, prayers, and support.
