Help Adam Sorgi BEAT PeritonealMesothelioma Cancer

Donation protected
On May 1st, 2023, Adam was diagnosed with Peritoneal Mesothelioma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer that affects the lining of the abdomen (only about 300 cases are diagnosed in the US per year). This life-altering diagnosis came MONTHS after he'd been suffering physicially from debilitating stomach pain. Since January, Adam has been to the hospital over 25 times, spent 13 nights in-patient, endured 10 CT scans, 9 different antibiotics, a case of c-diff, 2 fungal infections and diverticulitis. He was not allowed to eat solid food for 48 days, and for 17 of those days he was on a full TPN (IV liquid nutrition diet). Despite all of this, he continued to teach, coach and mentor students at Capo Valley HS through the end of March. He's lost 38 pounds since this horrible journey began and is just NOW facing the MOST complex part of his journey yet: FIGHTING CANCER.

Adam is a beloved son and brother to immediate family members Ed, Anne, Erica and Tori. He loves the game of baseball and has enjoyed playing and coaching on all levels. Adam has fond memories of his South Mission Viejo Team advancing to the 1997 Little League World Series Finals, the 1998 team winning the Junior League World Series, 2 Division 1 CIF titles at Dodger Stadium, winning the Pac-10 Conference Title with Stanford in 2004, and competing for the Swedish National Baseball Team for 12 years. He's been a Health Sciences, Psychology and AP Psychology Teacher at his alma mater since 2019 and was also fortunate enough to become Coach Zamora's successor as Capo Valley's Varsity Baseball Coach that year. Adam loves mentoring, coaching and teaching his students and hopes to continue to do this for years to come! He'd also love to get married and have a family one day.

As of this posting, Adam has used up all of his paid time off, sick days, and short-term disability. He does not have long-term disability insurance and has a very limited source of income given he's been on Medical Leave since the end of March. He will be out for several more months as he undergoes very expensive treatments, starting with an 8-12 hour HIPEC surgery on June 1st. On top of this, he has a mortgage, travel expenses, and long-term care needs. We are grateful that Adam has the opportunity to be treated by the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MD where he will receive state-of-the-art care giving him the best chance for remission. That being said, as you can imagine this does not come without serious burdens: physically, mentally and financially.

As Adam's support team, we are doing everything possible to keep him focused on FIGHTING and WINNING his battle with this rare form of cancer. Your prayers and donations of any amount will be truly appreciated by Adam and his family.

We thank you in advance for your support of any kind, and truly hope to report back with good news as we all stay #SORGISTRONG (fun hashtag that a CVHS baseball player came up with given Adam's LOVE of the Boston Red Sox).
