Design & build my own adapted ski and ski company

Donation protected
I would like to design and build my own lightweight adaptive ski to enable me to get on the slopes for fun and freedom!!! My name is Oliver and I used to be a big snowboarder and loved the mountains. However in 2008 I was wiped out with neurological illness and I am dependent on a wheelchair to mobilise these days. Although difficult to participate in almost all aspects of life even the basic things, I have held hope of returning to the mountains in some capacity. As a passionate designer and engineer this project would allow me to start flexing those design muscles again whilst at the same time creating something that would aid me to have some freedom! An adaptive ski would give me greater opportunity to get out there and practice as buying one or renting is extremely expensive. Furthermore I think I can do a better job of designing something that would be better suited to my needs. The project to build this chair involves both sketchwork, Computer aided Design and modelling before final manufacture. Materials will be metal frame, plastic seating and a rear shock absorber. Remember that disabled persons don't really get opportunities for true freedom, adaptive skiing is one thing that can provide this. Who knows if this is successful it could be the first of many. Imagine an adaptive ski company built from a bedside by a disabled person! With a goal to enable a way or a better solution for others with mobility issues to ski or do other outdoor activities. In most cases we can’t as the costs are too prohibitive and ‘solutions’ often poor! Start small, think big! THANKYOU.
