Hello!

My name is Briauna Skye McKizzie, and I am a single mom, writer, actor, director, and emerging filmmaker. As someone who has been touched in a myriad of different ways by depression and loss, in 2024, I decided to make a film that addresses mental health but in a way that centers forgiveness, healing, and joy. Killing Kyle, my first feature was born.

About the film

Killing Kyle is the Black sibling, road-trip film that we didn’t know we were waiting for. Hazel was recently dumped by the emotionally avoidant Kyle - even though they had been planning to move from Kansas City to Portland together. Though Portland was Hazel’s idea, Kyle still moves - which fills Hazel with justifiable rage. Her siblings, Justin and Diana, tell her they’ll take her on a consolation trip to Portland, and hey, maybe an added perk will be that they’ll kill Kyle once they arrive. On their way to Portland, a family secret is revealed, providing a bump in the road that makes Hazel realize, perhaps her anger at Kyle has more to do with unresolved family drama than an unceremonious dumping.

Status of Project

Here's where we're at! With the funds from the first couple weeks of fundraising and our Femme Fatale Fundraiser in March, I was able to cover the costs of pre-production fees which included things like equipment, website fees for the film, resource materials, training workshops, and fees charged by early contests that I've submitted the script to.

Now, I am ready to shoot the trailer to help with raising funds for the next leg of our journey. I've adjusted the amount of this campaign to reflect only the total amount I need to shoot the trailer and edit it.

I am very dedicated to this project, and while I'm raising these funds I'm still working behind the scenes by taking filmmaking classes, doing rehearsals with the cast, networking, saving, and taking every gig I find.

Additionally, I am applying to grants and fellowships. If you come across any, feel free to send a link my way.

For donors who give $25, you will receive a producer's credit.

For donors who give $50 or more, you will receive a producer's credit and you are invited to visit our set during filming.

For donors who give $100 or more, you will receive a producer's credit, a visit on set, *and* free entry into all of our upcoming fundraising events.

Thanks so much for reading!

I will be sure to keep you all updated along the way until we reach our destination.

Thank you to everyone who has already donated in some capacity!
