Addenbrokes NICU and Luca

Myself and Scott will be walking from home to the Rosie Hospital Addenbrookes (44 miles and 15 hours 20 mins ) in a day to raise money for 2 very special causes.

Firstly - for act NICU and ANTS Addenbrooke’s. Where to begin …

Rudy was diagnosed with Gastroschisis (later complex gastroschisis) at our 12 week scan. We knew the journey was going to be tough and gruelling with multiple operations but also knew that with the plan of delivering at Addenbrookes with their amazingly trained staff and technology we really were in the best hands. What we didn’t know - was just how amazing our time there would be . Yes it was absolutely the worst time of both of our lives and we will never forget that part - but we could not believe the kindness and support we received along the way; from our family and friends but also from the NICU team. They saved our boys life on more than one occasion - and then some. They did all his firsts (nappy change, bottle, clothes change (with so much love)), they remembered his big brothers name and kept us in high spirits with small talk , they cuddled him during the night when he was unsettled and they wrote goodbye and good luck notes in his journal when it was time to leave. We didn’t expect the Christmas stocking full of goodies or the beads of courage for us to show Rudy all that he overcame. As a mother it is quite heart reaching to arrive at hospital and see a nurse rocking your baby because he is upset - but so heart warming at the same time. We expected they would do their best to keep our Rudy alive and healthy - we didn’t expect how much they would love him when we couldn’t be there to show him and we will be forever grateful.

We have done the journey to addenbrookes over 100 times with all the emotions good and bad- and we are so looking forward to completing it this time with nothing but gratitude, love and peace in our hearts for our perfect little boy. We want to say thank you for letting us bring home our gorgeous, goofy Rudy bum and help make the nurses, doctors and surgeons life a little easier in any way we can. This charity supports staff wellbeing and training, research, wellbeing support for the families and so much more.

We would also like to support Help Luca. We are extremely lucky to feel like our journey has neared its end and we would like to help baby Luca in getting stronger and stronger after being diagnosed with SMA type 1. Scott worked with Luca’s Daddy Robert and we would love to help him get the treatment he needs and assist with the funding of this - like so many friends did for us . See below for Lucas’s story .
