06/07/2023: Addy was moved out of trauma and into a rehabilitation room earlier this week! She is doing well although still struggling with the use of her right arm and the discomfort of being in a neck brace. She is finally able to sit up on her own which allowed her to be moved into a wheelchair for a short spell so she could spend some time outside enjoying some fresh air. She is in good spirits and has had many visits from friends. She is still exceeding doctors expectations with her recovery and Sami could not be more proud of her strength and motivation. We will continue to update her progress and again thank you to all for your love and support!
We have also reached out to the county to request an additional crosswalk and updates to Las Tablas Road in response to this horrible accident. With the number of families and students crossing this busy street connecting residential homes, we feel it would be greatly beneficial to increase safety. In response, the transportation division has informed us they are waiting on the CHP accident investigation including the determination of the cause factors to help determine the need for improvements. It was also reported the county is continuously looking at improvement projects within this vicinity.
05/30/2023: Addy has made a lot of progress over the weekend, all the doctors and nurses are saying she is a true miracle. She hit another milestone by feeding herself and using her left hand for short spurts. She passed her test to be able to sit up 30% and is now able to eat solid foods. She gets tired quickly but is working toward her next goal to sit fully upright on her own which will allow for X-rays of her spine. Addy was moved out of ICU and into a larger room where her and mom are settling comfortably. Despite all her new challenges, she’s in good spirits and has plenty of sass and fight in her. Sami continues to express her thanks and gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from the community. Thank you to everyone who continues to support our girl!
05/28/2023 Thank you so much for your love and support. We know everyone wants to see our girls and give them lots of love. Right now, we are getting a plan together for visitation and we will get the info out as soon as we have it. Addy is still soldiering on and Sami truly needs to focus on their physical and mental health. Please do not contact Sami, either by phone or by text, for any requests to visit. If you have questions or concerns you can call or text Caila or Dianna.
Also Addy’s dog Dodger is doing well! He has some bumps and bruises and some head scratches but is on antibiotics to combat any infections and is fighting like a champ!
05/27/2023: Addyson is doing well. Her and mom got a good amount of sleep last night. She has some nerve pain which is to be expected but nothing has come up that was unpredicted by doctors. They have close family in the area and the staff at the Children’s Hospital have been wonderful. Addyson has a very long road to recovery but we are seeing positive results from tests they are running. Sami would like to express her immense gratitude for the generosity of friends, family and community. She is humbled and overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support she, Addy and Parker are receiving in this extremely difficult time. She wants to thank everyone wholeheartedly for the donations, well wishes and especially all of the prayers.
On the evening of Thursday, May 25th, around 7 pm, 15-year-old Addyson Nixon was walking her dog just three blocks from her home and was struck by a small SUV. Addison was rushed to the hospital and then flown to a children’s trauma center with multiple injuries. Addy has fractures in her neck and hip and swelling/bleeding in the brain. She is currently in stable condition. There aren’t words to describe how loving and giving Addy is, she is so strong and loved and adored by so many. Her mother Sami, a beloved teacher’s aide in the community, is her rock and has been by her side praying and anxiously waiting. Sami is a single mom providing for two children, any support we as the community can give to help them get through this time would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your prayers and support of their family.
