Adelaide Hills Bushfires
After what has been a horrifying and terrible day for many, I am grateful to be safe at home with my family. However, I know this is not the case for all. Today, many were forced to evacuate and were left in the unknown if they would return back to their homes. Unfortunately, many lost their homes, possessions, crops and loved ones as a result of the fires. My thoughts are with all those effected today and as they go through this time to recover from what has been lost.
Today’s conditions could have been much worse if it weren’t for the CFS volunteers fighting the blaze. As they continue to fight across the night, coming days and any fires in the coming months, thank you. Thank you to all of you who have volunteered your time to fight and protect your communities, by putting your lives at risk. Across South Australia, more than 14,000 volunteer taking themselves away from their own home, family and loved ones to fight against horrific conditions. At this time, it is important to recognise the work they do, and how many of them are willing to put their lives at risk.
In recognition of those out their fighting I have created a fundraising page to help financially support the work of the CFS. The CFS Foundation provides financial assistance when a CFS volunteer is injured or killed as a result of protecting our communities and develops initiatives that support the SACFS’s continued activities.
As support of SACFS volunteers cannot be fully met, the CFS Foundation, with the public’s generous assistance, recognizes and helps our volunteers in times of great need.
Please look after yourself and loved ones over the next few days and this summer.
