Adopt a Box, Make a Difference
Ready or not, the holidays are quickly approaching. This season of giving provides a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those in need. Continuing our long-standing commitment to being charitable, we are excited to announce our holiday campaign.
Our goal this year is to provide a box of food, a coat and a pair of shoes for each child at Redwood Elementary.
About Redwood Elementary
Situated within walking distance of our office in West Valley City, Utah, this diverse school is home to students in grades Pre-K to grade 6. Among its students, an impressive 35 different languages are spoken. Due to its lower-income demographic, Redwood faces unique challenges.
Of its 777 students, 90 percent qualify for free or reduced meals.
Unlike many schools, Redwood serves both breakfast and lunch each school day.
After school, most of the children go home to empty cupboards and refrigerators, meaning they will not likely have another meal until the following morning at school.
Redwood Elementary will start its Winter Break on Dec. 23, and students will return to school Jan. 3. This amounts to 7 missed school days in which these youngsters will go without their regular meals. School administrators are concerned that these children will go
hungry—making what should be a memorable jubilant time, one filled with anxiety and hardship.
This is an ideal opportunity for us to make a difference and lighten burdens. We would like to provide two meals a day for the 7 days of winter break (Adopt a Box) for each Redwood Elementary student as well as a coat and a pair of shoes. A good coat and shoes is a luxury item for these kids!
Partnerships
We are pleased to be partnering this year with our agent network, and we appreciate their selfless, generous contributions to this worthy effort. We are also grateful to be partnering with Walmart and Payless Shoe Source to help fill these needs for Redwood Elementary students.
As we all open our hearts and give generously, we can reach this goal! Donations of any amount will be used to purchase food or a coat or shoes.
How to Contribute
From now until Dec. 21, donate any amount to be used for food, coats or shoes. In partnership with Payless the cost to provide a pair of shoes is $15. The cost to provide a coat is $18. Donating $25 is the approximate cost of two meals for one child for 7 days. A $60 donation will provide a food box, coat and shoes for a child.
On Dec. 21 -22, we will deliver boxes (one for each Redwood student), shoes and coats to the school. Deliver purchased items or donations to Scott Karren. If you are purchasing any of these items yourself, please buy only what is on the included list from Walmart or Payless Shoe Source (champion brand) and make sure all items are unopened and whole (no partial boxes of oatmeal, crackers, etc.).
Together we Make a Difference!
The holiday season should be a time of happiness and joy for everyone. We urge everyone to do all they can to help us provide these children with much-needed nourishment, and to be a part of our Adopt a Box, Make a difference campaign
Sincerely,
