Adopting a Bundle of Joy

Our names are Chad and Theresa. We are high school sweethearts and have been happily married for two and a half amazing years. Theresa is currently working as a Post-Partum Supervisor in a hospital in Minnesota and she is halfway through obtaining her Master's degree in Nursing Leadership. Chad is working as a Case Coordinator in an Alternative Learning Center, and his primary role is helping high school students overcome barriers to graduate.

In April of 2016, we decided it was time to bring a little bundle of joy into this world. One could only imagine how ecstatic we were to find out that in our first month of trying, were were blessed to get a positive pregnancy test! At the 8 week ultrasound, the Midwife showed us our baby’s heartbeat, and she told us the chances of a miscarriage decreased to 1%. After hearing this news, we began to prepare for our little one. Sadly, one week after seeing our baby's heartbeat, Theresa started bleeding and we were devastated to find out that our angel baby had gone to heaven.

During the last 2+ years, we have continued our attempt to expand our family, but to no avail. Both of us have tried lifestyle changes, diet changes, medications, and multiple invasive fertility procedures...and nothing has worked. We repeatedly heard from doctors that they had no explanation for our infertility.

Our journey together has been one of  hopefulness, disappointment, sadness, and excitement (in any given order). As disheartening as this has been for us, we know we are meant to be parents and are firm believers that everything happens for a reason. That "reason" is because we are meant to adopt a child. So, we have decided to forego further fertility treatments and have submitted our application for the National Infant Adoption program through Evolve Adoption Services. Over the first 3 months of this process we will undergo a home study. During this time, we will be working directly with a Social Worker, who will help us prepare to welcome a new member into our family. In addition, there are a variety of classes provided by Evolve that we will attend. After we have finished the home study process, there is an estimated 3-15 month waiting period until we are matched with a birth mother.

For the first time since seeing the positive pregnancy test in April of 2016, there is a sense of hope and joy that is filling our hearts. As exciting of a step as this is for us, it does come with one big barrier: the price tag. The total cost of this adoption is going to be between $40,000 and $60,000.  As two people starting out in life, this is a very daunting figure for us to look at. However, we truly believe we are meant to adopt a baby and will do anything in our power to make this happen.
