Adopting Baby Hensley
Donation protected
We are so excited to announce that we have made the decision to grow our family through adoption! Getting here has been a long journey, but we know in our hearts that this is the path that we are meant to travel. We have chosen to partner with the Gladney Center for Adoption to help us complete our family!
As so many people know, at 10 weeks old I was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Growing up I always knew that having a child, while it was not impossible, would not be easy. Over the past several years, there have been many advancements in medication for people living with Cystic Fibrosis, and we have been taking the decision to begin one of these medications very seriously. From the time of my diagnosis I have been blessed to be extremely healthy for a person with Cystic Fibrosis. In the words of my doctor, my “health and the limited amount of maintenance it has required is an anomaly.” From a health standpoint, we knew that starting this new medication would be a huge win by being proactive with my health. Unfortunately this medication is not a "try it and see what happens" or "stop it after a while" kind of thing. It is a lifetime commitment which required deep thought, conversation, consultation, and a strong pros and cons list (this is no surprise to anyone that knows me). Making the decision to start this medication meant that I could not have a child of my own. After three years, we were at peace with the decision to embark on this journey, begin the new medication, and expand our family through adoption. While this was not an easy decision, it feels so right in our hearts.
Domestic Infant Adoption is expensive. Unfortunately, this reality keeps so many amazing couples from taking the steps to adopt. There is a page in our adoption packet that makes me nervous every time I glance at it! Even as I type this and think about the upcoming payments, I am getting anxious! When Randall and I first made the decision to adopt, one of the things that we wrestled over was whether or not we would do any fundraising. In a perfect world, we wouldn’t have to. There aren’t many things more humbling than asking other people for money! It’s uncomfortable. It’s vulnerable. The more we have talked it though, the more we have come to understand that it isn’t about asking people for money, but asking people to be part of our story. Our child's story, in how they got to come home. How we found the missing piece to our family. We are so excited about this PUZZLE FUNDRAISER!
It works like this:
1. We purchased a 1,000 piece puzzle. Naturally, it is a map because this adoption is all about the journey that we are taking to complete our family.
2. We are looking for sponsors for each piece. Each piece can be sponsored for $30. You can choose to buy 1, 2, 3, or 10! There is no limit! You can even go half with a friend!
3. Once you sponsor a piece or pieces, we will write your name on the back of each of the puzzle pieces and send you a picture, post it on our blog, and give you a shout out on social media.
4. Once the puzzle is complete, we will put the puzzle together and hang it in a double-sided glass frame for our child’s nursery so that he/she can look back and be reminded of all the loving people who invested a little “piece” of their love to bring them home! It truly takes a village to raise a family and in our case, our village will play an integral part in bringing Baby Hensley home!
We picture ourselves sitting down with our child, reading the names to him/her and sharing that all of these wonderful and generous people loved him/her before they even knew them. These are the people who brought them home. Isn’t that the best?!?! I just love it! I will keep our blog updated with progress of the puzzle and a list of amazing donors. Our goal with this Puzzle Fundraiser is to sell all 1,000 pieces which will raise $30,000!!!! While working with Gladney, this amount will take care of our upcoming home study, our case worker and our birth mother's case worker, matching services, and so much more!
Want to help us bring home Baby Hensley? Click the “Donate” button through our GoFundMe Account. If you wish to make an additional donation above the $30 price of a puzzle piece (first of all, that is awesome!), simply put the desired donation amount in the box and proceed to process your payment. Any amount that you can contribute truly helps, and if you can share our story on your social media, we would be forever grateful! Share it with your families and friends. Every share helps bring us closer to our goal and bringing home Baby Hensley! We’d be honored and humbled to have you be a part of this adoption journey.
We love you!
