My name is Melissa, I am asking for help for my friend of over 20 years, Nichole Wahl. Because of the "medical" field failing her, we almost lost her on 10/08/2023. Nichole went to the ER four times with the same complaint of back pain and trouble breathing. Each time she was treated badly and sent away. Because of the negative treatment she received she was afraid to return to the ER when her symptoms worsened. On 10/08/2023 something told me to go to her house and check on her. I will never forget what I saw when I walked in. My beautiful friend who is a wife and mother of three; looked like death. I could hear the crackling of her breathing when I was sitting next to her. I told her "I am taking you to the ER" she begged me not to take her. She said "they don't care about me, they just send me away." I said they will not this time. When we arrived at the ER they took a chest x-ray of her lungs which showed they were filled with fluid. Immediately she was admitted to the hospital and began a combination of three IV antibiotics. When the doctor asked why she did not come back sooner, we explained because she was scared she would be treated badly. The doctor then told us that if I would not have taken her to the ER that day that she would have been dead by tomorrow. This began a long two weeks in the hospital for Nichole. Because the fluid in her lungs had been left untreated the antibiotics were not helping. Nichole was transferred by ambulance to NCMC where she underwent a procedure for placement of a chest tube. For days they tried draining the fluid in her lungs without success. At this point they began injecting medication into her lungs and then suctioning them out twice a day. She was in incredible pain and horribly weak. Unfortunately this medical treatment caused her to loose a lot of blood and she had to have a blood transfusion. Because the medical community failed her and sent her away several times she almost lost her life. Due to her missing work because she was hospitalized and because she cannot return to work until her home IV antibiotics are completed her family is in desperate need of financial help. Her husband Chris is the only one working and trying to drive their three children to their jobs, school and sports. He is getting little sleep between caring for Nichole, working full time, and caring for the kids. If you can help Nichole in anyway we would greatly appreciate it. Nichole is a beautiful soul with a big heart and would help anyone who was in need. If you are able to help my friend and her family we would be forever grateful.
