Your support will help me in continuing to give Juno her best possible life, in spite of advanced spondylitis. This dog has saved my life in so many ways and I’m desperately working to make sure her golden years are well spent in comfort and joy.
I have known since the age of 7 I never wanted human children, only fur babies; I can’t imagine loving anything more than I love my pups. I wish I could do more on my own for Juno, but I need help.
Thank you
Juno is a husky/shepherd mix who will be 10 years old in February 2025. She is a loving rescue adopted from the wonderful Hoochie Pooch Rescue in Los Angeles in 2015 after experiencing neglect. Juno was underweight and terrified of the world; she was even scared of the grass when I took her into the yard for the first time. Since then, Juno has overcome multiple health crises, made many friends, found some courage and confidence, learned some new tricks, loved her service work prior to recent retirement, and has dug her way deeply right into my life and my heart.
More recently, her spondylosis has progressed to the point pharmacology is no longer enough. Spondylosis is a degenerative disease that causes the vertebrae in a dog's spine to fuse together. Symptoms include pain, stiffness, reluctance to move, and changes in posture. While there's no cure for spondylosis, treatments can help relieve pain and discomfort.
For Juno, this degenerative disease has also started causing painful bone spurs around her joints. Her ligaments are also starting to calcify, essentially turning them to bone, limiting her mobility. We are working closely with her amazing vet, Dr. Crawford in WA, to closely monitor her quality of life and treatment progress. He is studying for certification in degenerative illnesses and pain management. He is hopeful that if she responds well to treatment, we could have another 3-5 good years together.
Juno has also been referred to a canine rehabilitation therapist with recommendations for laser therapy, hydrotherapy, and acupuncture with the possibility of surgery. These treatments are expensive and while I have put some of my own medical needs on hold to prioritize Juno, it's not feasible on my own. Our monthly expenses before the addition of physical therapy and rehab has been approximately $150 for her health plan, $500 for physical therapy, $700 for medications and $1,000 for food and supplements. We need help with covering weekly doctor's appointments, various physical therapies, multiple medications, a specialized diet, and new supportive equipment such as ramps, a stroller, and winter gear to keep her joints warm.
Any and all help is so deeply appreciated!
Thank you ♥️
