Maine's Peoples Veto (Stop Out of Control Spending in Maine)

Maine's Budget Process is broken. For the last few budgets the Democrat party in the Legislature with the help of the Democrat Governor pushed through budgets without any regard for the more than 400 communities represented by Republicans. The budget continues to increase and more taxes are being added on.

No Spending Restraints

Taxes increasing - Nicotine Tax by a $1 per pack on Cigarettes plus increases to other products

Cannabis Tax increase 10%-14%

Pension Tax - limits deductions

Sales Tax on Streaming Services

Tax on Pharmacy Prescriptions

Ambulance Tax

Increase fees to hospitals based on inpatients beds

Fishing Licenses increase by $7

Concealed Handgun permits up by $15 in-state or $20 non-residents

Other Budget items

Over 1500 unfilled state jobs that can be swept into slush funds

Trim $132 million from current obligations by suspending COLA to direct care workers

Increase state funding to colleges and universities by 4% or $41 million

These increase taxes add millions of dollars to the an already bloated budget and continue to fund programs for Non-Mainers
