After the Fire: Help Rebuild Jennifer's Life

On a quiet Saturday afternoon in February, I was on the phone with my good friend Jennifer when she stopped in the middle of her sentence to say "I smell smoke." The next 5 minutes were filled with chaos listening to her yelling for her kitties and firefighters bursting in to evacuate Jennifer from the apartment without being able to take her babies with her. To the devastation of not knowing when or if she would be able to go back in for them. Finally after hours waiting for the fire to be put out, Jennifer got word that the firefighters had gone into the apartment and seen the cats but had been unable to catch them. Locking the door behind them with terrified animals left in a smokey apartment. Two days later Jennifer was finally reunited with her furbabies and they are safe, but without a home. Currently staying in a small bedroom in her dad's basement, Jennifer is faced with the reality that the apartment she has called home for almost 11 years is no longer habitable and she must rebuild her life from the bottom up.
