Michael Namey AED Initiative
Tax deductible
The Michael Namey AED Initiative was launched in memory of University of Central Florida freshman and Jacksonville native, Michael Namey, to provide automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and critical CPR training to schools and organizations in Florida.
The Namey family has teamed up with Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation to help save lives. Founded in 2005, the Foundation is dedicated to impacting the life-saving capabilities of first responders and their communities.
Our goal is to raise $50,000 to help purchase AEDs to be placed in Florida schools and facilities to help support CPR/AED training.
We need your help:
Your donations will help the Michael Namey AED Initiative provide AEDs & critical training to schools and organizations in Florida. All funds raised will go to Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation's Michael Namey AED Fund.
Why we're here:
We're here to celebrate the life of Michael Namey, a college student who died of sudden cardiac arrest last September. He suffered a seizure/cardiac arrest the day prior to his death while in class at the University of Central Florida in Orlando.
The tragedy personally affected the Firehouse Subs team, as Michael was the nephew of a team member.
Our organization is working with Connie Namey, Michael’s mother, and Dr. Sylkia Martinez, the mother of one of Michael’s closest friends, to raise awareness for sudden cardiac arrest on school campuses and increase AED training and availability.
The need:
The American Heart Association estimates nearly 10,000 cases of out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) occur each year in the United States in victims less than 18 years old—and tragically most victims die. Survival rates increase significantly when victims receive CPR and defibrillation within a few minutes of collapse yet only 1/3 of SCA victims receive bystander CPR and only 2% are treated with an AED by a bystander. When bystanders intervene by providing CPR and using the nearest AED, survival rates increase from eight percent to nearly 40 percent.
Please consider making a donation to help increase AED availability and decrease needless deaths due to cardiac arrest.
