Afghan Education Student Outreach Project
Donation protected
Since the summer of 2022, your donations have provided internet access to hundreds of Afghan girls and young women so that they can join their AESOP classes. Over 1,000 students have completed at least one semester at AESOP and it's clear that those who receive this support do better and continue their learning longer. So, we are making a new stretch goal so that we can support even more girls and help them continue to advance their learning.
For girls in Afghanistan, 6th grade is their last graduation.
"If you know English and you have the internet, there's nothing that you can't learn." -Zahra, AESOP co-founder

Following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, there has been a ban on Afghan girls attending school, and since 2021 these restrictions have increased. Despite these challenges, Afghan girls have not given up on their education and are utilizing every possible opportunity to educate themselves. The creation of AESOP, with the idea of a small group of individuals and a GoFundMe budget, has been a big success. A small student group under the direction Dr. Seth Holm, started the first class of 19 Afghan girls in June of 2022. In less than 2 years, the number of students has grown to over 500, in 6 different levels of English classes, plus math, drawing and business.
Classes are taught by teams of Advanced Afghan students and fluent English volunteers, mostly college students.
These classes don't just provide English language instruction. They offer students and volunteer teachers a sense of value and belonging, connecting them with a community of learners and international supporters that reminds them they are not forgotten.
"For Afghan girls and young women, positivity is a requirement for life. Amid all the unfairness, all the suffering, all the setbacks that they face in their young lives, these students remain the most resilient, most determined, most grateful and positive people I have ever met. They have suffered, and each carries a deep darkness inside of her, but their strength of spirit always shines through, and when they laugh it's like snow falling on the mountains. They have awakened a spirit of gratitude in me and taught me the purpose and power of hope." -Dr. Holm
We appreciate your kindness and generosity.
