Afghan Refugee father with medical expenses
Donation protected
Hi, many of you know that we started working with an Afghan Refugee family as volunteers. Over the past 18 months, we have developed a strong friendship with this loving and resilient family. Since arriving in the U.S., the father has been mostly bedridden due to back trauma. He has endured surgery and more than a year of physical therapy and rehab. While there is some improvement, he still needs a cane to walk and cannot sit or stand for more than 30 minutes at a time. He continues to have a lot of pain. Without the ability to earn for his family, they remain in poverty and have maxed out most transitional help. They were able to use the last funds to pay for rent, household necessities and medical bills. Our next step is to turn to more holistic integrative care for him such as acupuncture and massage. His surgeon is supportive of this direction. Medicaid and the traditional medical care he has access to are not proving adequate support for healing. Thanks for your consideration. In many ways, this family is thriving. The kids have learned English and love their school. The mom has a part-time job at a grocery store and recently learned to drive. I have no doubt their love and tenacity will see them through.
