Afghan Refugee Support in Qatar
My name is Maryanna Diaz and I’m a DoD contractor at a base in Qatar. A call went out across the base for volunteers and I volunteered first at the airport terminal and then next to a ‘new’ hangar that was housing hundreds of refugees from 2 days old to 80+. They needed basic supplies such as bottles, formula, diapers, clothes, sandals and over the counter medication. I made several trips to the pharmacy and Carrefore acquiring supplies for the past week plus to provide basic care for the refugees. I recently paid off all my credit card debt from a payout from the VA and now I am racking up debt again to just provide basics to the refugees and I would do it again in a heartbeat. These families have become like my own. I am short ~$30k to pay off my credit cards. I’ve spent more than $55k, but have received ~$25k in donations from my USMA network, friends and family. However I do have a family with four young children myself and would love to receive more help to pay off the money I put on my credit cards to help the refugees in not only my hangar, but two other hangars as well.
Thank you for your support!
