AFM - Help Alex Walk Again
Donation protected
I'm starting a campaign for my nephew Alex who is now 6 years old. In September of 2016 when he was just 4 he woke up and couldn't stand. He was paralyzed in one leg. The paralysis quickly spread to both legs and his entire body showed signs of weakness. He was having trouble breathing, sitting, and holding his head up. After multiple test Alex was diagnosed with Acute Flaccid Myelitis, a condition which is related to polio. This condition affects the nervous system, specifically the spinal cord causing limb weakness and paralysis. Currently the CDC has no specific treatment but are trying many interventions. Currently there is no vaccines available, no known cure and prognosis is unknown.
Alex spent almost a year in different hospitals and a rehabilitation center before he was strong enough to return home. Alex is still paralyzed in both legs but has made many strides in his battle with AFM. He has physical therapy daily and his parents and him work extremely hard in fighting this battle. They are the strongest people I know.
Unfortunately, due to the length of his rehabilitation and the cost of special equipment money is getting tight as the insurance company definitely has limitations on therapy and equipment. His parents (my sister and brother in law) have to much pride to ask for help but I'm putting pride aside and asking for them.
All donations would be greatly appreciated and will go to helping Alex fight his battle with AFM.
Thank you
