Documentary Coverage of Africa Climate Summit 2023

Tax deductible
The inaugural Africa Climate Summit will be held in Nairobi (Kenya) from September 4 - 6, 2023. The summit will address the increasing exposure to climate change and its associated costs, both globally and particularly in Africa. With the expectation of escalating climate crises in terms of frequency and intensity, urgent action is required to mitigate these challenges.

Over the past decade, storms, wildfires, and floods have resulted in substantial GDP losses. Africa, in particular, faces severe climate-related challenges, including drought, desertification, and increasing cyclones, leading to displacement, migration, and food crises. The continent is also disproportionately affected by the global temperature rise and is projected to experience escalating physical climate risks.

The Africa Climate Summit will serve as a platform to inform, frame, and influence commitments, pledges, and outcomes, ultimately leading to the development of the Nairobi Declaration. The Africa Climate Summit is expected to attract more than 10,000 delegates from across the world.

Organized in parallel with the Africa Climate Summit, Africa Climate Week (ACW 2023) will provide a platform for policymakers, practitioners, businesses and civil society to exchange on climate solutions, barriers to overcome and opportunities realized in different regions, leading to the first global stocktake concluding at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai (UAE) in December 2023.

As an independent voice, rooted in the vibrant cultures of East Africa and the African-American community, The AFRICAN CONNECTIONS Research and Education Fund (ACREF) plans extensive coverage of the African Climate Summit and Africa Climate Week activities.

Members of our team have received accreditation from The Africa Climate Summit Secretariat.
Our highly experienced, multinational team of academics and citizen journalists will produce daily podcasts from the conference venue, post photographs and video clips to popular social media platforms, archive interviews with leaders attending the conference - and in the months following the conference deliver lectures and discussions analyzing the conference and its outcomes to college and university audiences at The Co-operative University of Kenya; The Technical University of Kenya; Makerere University (Uganda); The University of California, Santa Cruz; Isothermal Community College; North Carolina A&T State University; Morehouse College and other institutions.

Funds raised through this effort will be utilized exclusively in meeting the costs associated with transportation, lodging, meals and technical facilities.
