SWISS-AFRICA TENNIS FOR KIDS IN ALL SCHOOLS
Don protégé
1. To create a culture of tennis in the schools across Africa - as an integrated discipline at the schools' sports curriculum.
2. Identifying potential tennis talents amongst youth (10-17 years of age) initially in 5 different African countries: Zambia, DRC, Malawi, Botswana and Zimbabwe (others will be added later during the 2nd phase)
3. To strengthen the training capabilities of the local coaches in these countries to accompany the youth talents.
4. Create a momentum and enhanced exposure to Tennis in the Central/Eastern and Southern African regions including our 5 pilot countries: Zambia, DRC, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Botswana.
5. Organize a 1 week tennis camp in Lusaka, Zambia, for 70 youth (10-17 years old) and 10 local coaches sourced from the 5 pilot countries, which will be executed by the JW Academy based in Lausanne, Switzerland.
6. During the camp a regional tennis tournament will be organized. The aim is that the 2 winners (1 boy and 1 girl) will get a grant to join the JW Academy in Lausanne, Switzerland, the following year.
Finally, children love being part of teams and interaction with other kids. The benefits of tennis on a physical level is obvious: it’s good exercise, learning good ball skills, hand-eye coordination etc. The social skills children learn on the tennis court are perhaps not so obvious, but could be of life changing benefit.
The top 10 social benefits of kids playing tennis:
1. Camaraderie
2. Losing gracefully
3. Learning respect
4. Learn control of emotions
5. Self-esteem
6. Learning patience
7. Dedication
8. Working together
9. Less selfish
In other words, tennis develops your ability to communicate, coordinate and work together. You learn to compete and play fairly with others.
Last but not least we the partners behind this initiative profoundly believe that Tennis can change the lives in African Communities. We thank you in advance for your indispensable support.
