African American Men, Harleys, & Mental Health

Peace! My name is Dr. Amel Logan aka "Doc Lo." I earned my doctorate degree in clinical psychology in 2018. My clinical research focused on African American men and their utilization of mental health services. This research highlighted the fact that although African American men are beginning to become more aware of various facets of mental health and its impact on their overall life functioning and utilizing mental health therapy more, they continue to utilize these services far less than their white male counterparts although mental health dysfunction and disease impacts African American men more detrimentally. As a result of these alarming findings, I have dedicated my career to increasing the awareness and utilization of mental health services among African American men.

In March 2023, I started the non-profit organization, Baggers for Mental Health, as a vehicle to combine my passion for motorcycle riding and increasing African American men's utilization of mental health services. I interact with a significant number of African American men that also share my passion for motorcycle riding and thought this would be a natural way to highlight this need among us.
