AfriCaribe Fundraiser--help save the center!

AfriCaribe is celebrating 20 years of service to our community. We are having a fundraiser to help the Center stay open. Due to COVID-19, many non-profits and businesses have been forced to close. This human tragedy has effected AfriCaribe, a landmark in our Humboldt Park community. For more than 18 years, AfriCaribe has offered classes, bombazos, and other cultural work to promote the identities of our people. We are determined to save our center because Bomba has been the driving force of our existence and Afro-Puerto Rican and Caribbean identity. Let's come together as a community to help save the Center.
It takes a village to build a community. Any contribution to our center will be greatly appreciated. We could not do this without you! Recently, due to rising COVID-19 cases, our monthly Bombazo July 25, 6-8pm is postponed until further notice. Thank you for your support thus far and you can still contribute with this page!
Below is a little history of AfriCaribe!

Created in 2000 by Evaristo “Tito” Rodriguez, AfriCaribe provides Chicago with a means to celebrate the African influence in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Rodriguez’ vision came to fruition in the form of an umbrella organization providing educational and cultural programming through four main initiatives:
1. An academy, in which professional dancers and musicians teach the traditional drumming and dance of several Puerto Rican ‘Bomba’ rhythms;
2. A performance ensemble, which presents various styles of folk music from Puerto Rico and the Caribbean through song, dance, drumming, and other percussion;
3. A production company, which presents annual events including folklore conferences;
4. An education department, which provides workshops and lectures by organization members as well as by guest professionals.
