Dear Family and Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of our beloved Agnes. She died early in the morning on Sunday, October 27th, with Husband Matt by her side.

A remarkable woman, Agnes was an intelligent and rebellious spirit who always knew what she wanted and fearlessly pursued her chosen path. Agnes and I met when we were 14 and since then I have been lucky to be a part of her beautiful life journey: when we met, she was a fierce force in her well-worn Doc Martens, often engaging our high school teachers in long philosophical conversations about literature, religion, politics and science. Her tenacity for life never left her.

Perhaps it was that tenacity that attracted her to Matt, or perhaps it was seeing her pivoting and spiraling at aikido where they met? A happy memory of mine is when Agnes visited me in the UK and, with a shy smile, told me about this wonderful, polite, respectful and smart man she’d met - I remember travelling around Wales with Agnes; her mission was to find beautiful postcards that she filled with stories for Matt.

I was delighted when Matt became her husband, and even more so, when Agnes became a mother to her beautiful boys, Luke and Kurt. She blossomed into motherhood; she was a patient, devoted and loving mother, who always engaged her boys in fun experiential learning activities such as collecting cicada exoskeletons and baking cupcakes. She taught them to be kind, to love, to be strong, and to be curious.

Sadly, two years ago, Agnes began her battle with cancer. She faced cancer with the same determination and courage she’d faced everything else in life.

Agnes leaves behind Matt, Ania, Gord, Diane, and her extended family, all of whom will continue to bring spark into Kurt and Luke’s lives as the boys learn, grow and experience countless adventures in this beautiful life.

To support Kurt, Luke and Matt during this difficult time, I am setting up a Go Fund Me campaign. The funds will support the family as they build new routines and habits with the memory of Agnes forever in their hearts. Any donations beyond crucial costs will go towards Luke and Kurt’s future educational savings.

In lieu of flowers or other commemorative gestures, Agnes hoped that people could donate blood, as donations played a crucial role in her care.

Thank you for honouring Agnes’ memory and supporting her family during this challenging time. Your kindness means a lot to us all.

Agnes is resting with the angels now.

Agnes' family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. on Friday, November 1, 2024 at St. Anthony Daniel Roman Catholic Church, 29 Midland Drive, Kitchener. Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception in the Parish Life Centre. Private family interment at Williamsburg Cemetery.
