Nia Black Legacy Fund
Nia Black a local 23 year old Native Minnesotan artist known as "Brooklyn" became the victim of community gun violence on June 13, 2020. Black was an Aveda Institute alumna, business owner, and a valued member of the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association in (NEMAA). Her business Brooklyn Black LLC, served as an outlet for beauty industry professionals and entrepreneurs'. Nia was the founder of Project Brooklyn where she highlighted the talent of local Twin City artists and had visions of taking her project Nationwide.
Brooklyn, a professional Makeup Artist (MUA) had clients that flew into the Twin Cities monthly for professional services as well as celebrities like Star Jones and Super Bowl performers. She had been a licensed cosmetologist since February of 2018 and taught courses at North Hennepin Community College and was a full-time student.
100% of the proceeds will go toward the following:
- Community gun violence prevention education
- Bringing awareness to violence against women in our communities
- The ongoing work of Project Brooklyn where we will bring together local and national entrepreneurs within the health and beauty industry
