ABOUT ME
Peniel Guerrier
Dance and drum educator, community leader, founder and Artistic Director of Kriye Bode.
My love of dance comes from the belief that dance is a cultural element that reflects every country, region, and society. It is an expression that bridges communities and preserves the traditions of culture.
MY VISION
Education
For as long as I can remember it has been a dream of mine to build a cultural community center/school in Haiti. Finally, we are on the cusp of turning this vision into a reality. After years of searching, we have found the perfect location and have broken ground in the region of Saint Marc, my hometown as well as one of the many pioneers of Haitian Folkloric Dance, Jean Leon Destine. Most dance and music schools are located in Port-Au-Prince and are not accessible to children outside of the city. It is my goal to give kids the opportunity to study and learn about their culture through dance and give them a chance to discover their natural talents and gifts.
By educating the youth, we continue the preservation of Culture.
Preservation
It is those who came before me, my elders, which help to fuel my fire. In honor and respect of them, it is my mission to continue their legacy of dance education, cultural pride, and awareness.
Community
For the past ten years, I have been bringing people to Haiti and every year someone asks, "Can we please stay with people in the community instead of in a hotel?"So, in addition to the Cultural Center, I am creating a place of our own, where it will be easier to have daily interactions with locals in the neighborhood. I want travelers to be able to experience not only dance and drum but everyday life in the Haitian community.
I have been working hard to connect people of all backgrounds so that we can learn from and give back to one another.
The construction has begun, but we need the help of friends and family to bring it to completion. The goal is to raise $20,000 so we can at least finish the dance studio portion by early Spring of 2017. We'll be sure to keep you posted on our progress!
Thank you in advance not only for your continued love and support but for your time and consideration.
And remember,
Please help spread the word on social media!!!
xoxo
