Aid Afghan Family's Fresh Beginning

I am Louis Hogan from Owings Mills, Maryland. Along with a small group of volunteers, we are supporting two families of Afghan refugees during their transition to life in America. We welcomed both families who came to us through the HIAS SIV program in March, 2025. One is a family of 4. The second is a family of 3. All are staying in temporary housing in Baltimore County.

Our sponsor groups consists of members of St. Thomas' Church, St. Mark's Episcopal and the Chizuk Amuno Congregation. The name of our group is Neighbors Together 3.

We are busy locating longer term housing for the family of 4, signing the children up for schools, arranging connections for health care, and lining up for English lessons for those that need it. We are also helping with assisting in obtaining driver's licenses and car acquisitions, seeking employment and orienting the families to life in Maryland.
