Fighting Breast Cancer as a Single Mom — Any Help Means the World
Hi, my name is Alisha, and I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Triple Negative Breast Cancer in February 2025. Shortly after, I learned I also carry the BRCA1 genetic mutation, which significantly increases the chances of the cancer returning. Because of this, my treatment plan is aggressive and includes chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, reconstructive surgery, the removal of my ovaries, and radiation.
Right now, I'm undergoing weekly chemotherapy. I’ll be halfway through the first of Part 1 of my treatment next week. Each session takes more out of me — the fatigue is getting worse, and I’m doing my best to keep working, but it’s becoming incredibly difficult.
I’ve been a hair stylist for nearly 30 years. Like many in my profession, I don’t have access to paid time off, sick leave, or employer-provided insurance. I moved to North Carolina almost a year ago with my two teenage children (my daughter is 15 and my son is 16), and I'm doing everything I can to keep our lives as stable as possible during this fight. But the financial strain is becoming too much to carry alone. Every penny raised will go towards keeping a roof over our head and food on our table.
Any support — financial, emotional, or by simply sharing this page — means the world to us. Thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing with me and my family through this.
