Hello everyone,
I never imagined I would find myself in a situation where I’d need to turn to others for help, but after nearly six years of fighting to survive following a life-changing car accident, I’m at a point where I have no other options. I am sharing my story with the hope that you can help me regain some stability and provide me with the resources I need to move forward.
Recently, widespread attention has been drawn to the unethical practices of some insurance companies, highlighting the suffering caused by their negligence and greed. For the first time, many people are beginning to understand the challenges faced by individuals like me. I’ve decided to share my story now because this increased awareness offers a chance for voices like mine to be heard and supported.
In February 2019, I was involved in a car accident on my way to work. That single moment upended my life entirely. I was left permanently disabled, unable to work, and burdened with a host of debilitating health issues, including:
Traumatic Brain Injury , constant headaches, nausea, dizziness, and brain fog
Severe balance issues and vertigo caused by Meniere's disease
Tinnitus and hearing problems, with permanent hearing loss after every episode
Chronic pain in my shoulder, back, and neck
Extreme sensitivity to light and fast-moving stimuli
Episodes of confusion, forgetfulness, and seizures
Anxiety, depression, and PTSD
The doctors have told me that I will eventually lose all my hearing as my condition worsens. My life is now a constant battle to manage these symptoms and prevent episodes that can permanently damage my health. Simple tasks like walking or being exposed to too much stimulation can trigger episodes. Most of my time is spent in bed, trying to "reset" my body just to make it through the day.
As if the physical challenges weren’t enough, the accident also left me financially and emotionally devastated. I lost my home and had to move in with family, who have taken on the full burden of my care. I’ve sold nearly everything I owned of value just to get by. I’ve lost my independence, my sense of purpose, and any hope of a normal life.
Adding insult to injury, my long-term disability insurer, The Hartford, has fought me every step of the way. Despite having a policy with a current value of over $400,000—and an actual lifetime value significantly higher—they have delayed, denied, and minimized my claim at every turn. They have made it abundantly clear that they will do everything in their power to avoid fulfilling their obligations, regardless of the cost to my health and well-being. (This is my personal account of my experiences and opinions)
I am left with no choice but to fight this battle in court, but the process is grueling, and there’s no guarantee of a timely resolution. In the meantime, I am struggling to afford basic necessities, let alone the specialized care I need to manage my condition.
I am reaching out to you, the community, for support. Your contributions will help me:
Cover day-to-day living expenses and medical costs
Afford treatments and therapies to manage my symptoms
Regain a sense of stability and security
Continue fighting my legal battle against The Hartford
Every little bit helps, whether it’s a donation, sharing my story, or simply offering words of encouragement. I am so grateful for any support you can provide as I navigate this incredibly difficult time.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Your kindness and generosity mean more to me than I can ever express.
With gratitude, Brandon Friend
