Aid Danielle and Kamal Lindoff After Mendenhall Flood

Donation protected
Hi friends and family.

I’m sure most of you know by now of the devastation that happened in Juneau last night with the Mendenhall River flooding. The flooding resulted in evacuations and damage to tons of homes along the river and even in areas they did not expect or plan for.

Danielle and Kamal Lindoff (My sister and Brother-in-law) unfortunately had to evacuate early this morning through a window onto a raft. They were hoping to stay as long as they could to try and mitigate the water damage. However, the strength of the river water was coming too fast and was too strong to do anything but force them to get out.

As you can imagine and have seen on the news, their home was devastated! They still have no power, and the water is still retreating. While they were still in the home, the water was coming through their walls, floorboards, and through their sliding glass door that was ready to burst from the weight.

The damage is still being assessed and will be ongoing. Obviously, the home is not safe to return to and certainly not safe for them to sleep there.
Their carbon monoxide alarms are going off and the smell in the house is terrible, which likely means a gas leak.

I am setting up a go fund me in hopes of assisting them with what is to come.

First, to find a safe place to stay in the meantime.

Secondly, to hopefully assist with the cleanup and whatever other severe damage the flood has caused to their home. This is going to involve structural construction, water remediation, Electrical repairs, etc.

I hope that FEMA will get involved, but as we know that can take months.

Prayers going out to all the "Suicide Basin Flood" victims in Juneau, Alaska. So many people are now facing the loss of their homes and belongings.

HERE IS A NOTE FROM DANIELLE
Hi everyone,

Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever guessed I'd be asking for money through a GoFundMe.... but this year we (along with lots of others) were shocked by the amount of damage due to the Mendenhall River flood.

Let me be clear, we have lived on the river for 12 years, and we have watched it rise and fall over and over again without damage. My area has always been "safe". We were moved out of the flood zone by the city, and of course we chose not to get the insurance at a very high rate due to last year's flood... (in hindsight we now understand that last year was not a one-time event) Last year, we had lots of debris and silt and some outdoor damages, but this year took us all by surprise with the 16ft rise.

The river overtook us this year. It covered our back yard, beyond the height of our fence all the way to our house. Additionally, it took our front yard, trapping us in our home until we finally decided to escape out the window.

It came into every single weak spot in our house, it poured in like a river does and nothing was going to stop it... and I mean that. Because this year, we had sandbags, we taped our garage we moved everything up to higher ground, WE WERE PREPARED FOR THE WORST! But apparently the mighty Mendenhall had more tricks up its sleeve.

We lost our entire first level, furniture, pantry stored food, our garage door was destroyed, it picked up our freezer and pulled it off the hinges and slammed it into the ground.

We had so much water coming in, that it became apparent we were working against a force that could not be beat.

We will need to have an abatement team come out and assess for mold as the water came in through walls and the floor as well as the doors and seams.

We lost a lot, but alas we are lucky because our home and our lives were spared.

If you have the means, we would appreciate you considering helping us out and as always please share to help us reach more people.
