Aid first-gen Latinx to attend first conference
Donativo protegido
Hello, my name is Susan Chavez (they/them/elle) and I am a Spring 2023 SFSU alumni from the Latina/o Studies department. The LSA (Latinx Studies Association) Program Committee accepted a collaborative paper I worked on with Dr. Muñiz for their 2024 LSA Conference taking place in Tempe, Arizona. The paper examines how Latina mothering practices teach their daughters how to become community-engaged artists. This opportunity is abundant as I envision a future within academia as a graduate student in an Ethnic Studies or Chicana/o Studies PhD program. Building my professional career and networking at this conference will aid in my relationships with others within the Latina/o/x Studies field. I am currently in San Diego and am facing unemployment as I await a career opening post-grad. This funding will allow me to be at the conference and garner working relationships to solidify my professionalism in the department. The aid will cover travel expenses, hotel, membership, registration, and other costs that present in attendance and participation at the LSA conference. Thank you for your help! Gracias por la ayuda.
