UPDATE:
8/27/24
it is with the heaviest heart to say that Bambi passed Monday evening. Please keep her family in your prayers.
8/14/24. Today is a very big day!! Mom is in surgery right now and they are starting the MEEK procedure. They tried this procedure a week ago but had to abort it. Essentially, they are taking thin strips of her good skin, which will grow back in 3 days (how miraculous.) Putting it through a stretching machine and puncturing holes for it to oxygenate. Basically turning it into a bandaid, and applying a cork backing to the skin. They will then apply the skin to her back. She will be in a prone bed laying on her stomach for 5 days. They want to insure the graft can dry out and adhere and heal properly.
This is the biggest step so far! After a couple weeks they will use the skin of hers, that they grew in a lab, and start closing other areas.
She will be in surgery all day today. We won’t know if the graft took UNTIL AFTER at least 5 days. I won’t have any update other than she’s out of surgery.
Michael made it safely back home, and I am sticking out the rest of the month down in Denver.
Moms been down here for one month. The doctors feel confident in her care. We are all in awe of how far she’s come in just a month. She still has a fungal infection but it looks to be getting somewhat better.
Again thank you for the continued support and prayers. I’ve taken a step back from my phone, if i’m not texting you please don’t take offense to it.
Deane’s funeral will be at Stevenson friday afternoon.
Any cards can be sent to my home address, PM me and I can send it to you.
Thank you all for the love ❤️❤️
Hello my FB family & friends. I know many of you have heard of the tragic death of our brother, Deane Nichols, in a house fire last weekend and the traumatic burn injuries his fiancé, Bambi Mansfield sustained. Deane’s 14 yr old son, Coedy, was not home at the time of the fire and for that, we are so thankful. Coedy’s whole world as he knew it was lost and destroyed. People have inquired as to what they can do to help. An account has been set up at Kirkwood Bank here in Dickinson for Coedy’s current & future needs. All contributions can be sent to: Kirkwood Bank & Trust Co
PO Box 1287
Dickinson, ND 58602-1287
and checks made out to:
Coedy Nichols Benefit Account.
We have been humbled by the outpouring of support and love shown to our family during this devastating time. Deane’s love & life was always centered around Coedy and their future on the ranch. As a family, we are surrounding Coedy with love, comfort, and a place for him to process and grieve this overwhelming loss. Any and all support is greatly appreciated. Peace
update: gofund me is working!!!
update: 7/18 Bambi made it out of surgery well. Gofund me is causing issues with releasing funds hopefully this is fixed in the next day this is fixed we are close. Bennette is looking for long term housing as well.
Hello everyone, here is an update regarding Bambi’s condition. I apologize for the delay, but I am understandably very busy at this time. Further updates will come when possible. Bambi is still in very critical condition, but is stable. She is in an induced coma, and will remain that way for some time. She has severe burns over 70% of her body, and has undergone several successful surgeries. This will not be an easy or speedy recovery by any means. She will remain in the burn ward for at least 4-6 months, and will require extensive physical and occupational therapy. We will not be announcing when she is awake except to immediate family, at least for a while. Do not expect to be able to see her immediately. On the bright side, we were able to secure a rental for the next month. It’s not an ideal solution, however, so we will be continuing to search for more amenable options. As of right now, Michael (my boyfriend) will be here tomorrow evening. Our family is tackling this as best we can, we’ve decided to divide and conquer to get everything done in a timely manner. We are still seeking as much support as possible on the GoFundMe, which is very close to being fixed. We have submitted the required documents, and are awaiting response. Regarding any rumors about my mother’s health, disregard them unless they come directly from me, or are posted to the GoFundMe.
I would like to reiterate again how much I appreciate all of the continued support, it does not go unnoticed.
update as of 7/16:
I saw mom last night. It was hard to see her, she’s almost unrecognizable. Most of her face is covered in superficial burns, as well as her head. Right now her back has no skin on it, they will be trying to place a permanent graft soon. She’s still in a coma but she’s moving her face. We’re going to do another surgery today god willing. Right now she’s on 3 different forms of life support. There’s a possibility of them waking her up in the next few days but we won’t know until we get closer. We still have a very long road ahead. I’m not really
going to have any more updates other than her getting of surgery. The only other way I will be updating you is if her condition worsens, we aren’t thinking like that yet.
Update:
media release from STARK COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE.
Hello!
My name is Brianna. I am setting up this GoFundMe for Bambi Mansfield and her children.
Bambi was involved in a house fire and is currently in Colorado in critical condition.
Bambi took in my family when we needed a place to live when I was in the 6th grade. She is kind, and always giving her all to and for everyone. This is our time to give back! She has a very long road to recovery.
Her oldest son, Dakota, has taken on his younger brother Coedy at this time, who luckily was not home during the accident.
Her daughter Bennette will be flying one-way to Colorado to be with Bambi at this time, she will need help with meals, comfort, and an occasional hotel room to shower and stay rested while helping her mother in the hospital.
”mom is in very critical condition right now. over 70 percent of her body is deeply burned. she is getting her hurts surgery this afternoon. it is important that her kidneys work hard to keep her alive. the next couple weeks are vital to her staying alive. if she does pull through she will be in the burn hospital for 4-6 months and will have to go to a rehab center shortly after”
Her fiancé was also in the house and passed away.
With all this being said, I am humbly asking for donations to help the family with the burden of some cost. Thank you.
