Support for Bruns Family #BrunsStrong

I am Melissa, Jess’ sister. As many are aware now my sister and my brother-in-law James Bruns were in a motorcycle accident Monday July 29th at approximately 4:25 pm. They were east of Boyer, going around the curves. They came around a curve that contained loose gravel across the roadway that caused them to lose control of the bike. They rolled the bike and ended up in the ditch. They both hit the ground hard.

Jess was transported by Crawford County Ambulance to Denison, where it was determined she had suffered two seperate broken pieces in her neck, and a broken scapula. She was then immediately lifeflighted to UNMC Hospital, in Omaha. She is in a lot of pain. However, as of now we are hoping no surgery. She will have a neck brace and a shoulder sling for a while, to determine if her body can heal without surgery. If they determine this is still the route she is going, she could get discharged as soon as tomorrow.

James was transported from the scene by lifeflight to UNMC Hospital, in Omaha. James has suffered a significant brain bleed. He is in induced coma at this time. Last night they performed a surgery to remove part of his skull, to reduce pressure on his brain. James also suffered a broken clavicle. We will not know the extent of his injuries until his brain stops swelling. The drs will then start weening him off the medicine, to see how his body reacts. He is not out of the woods, but we hope and pray he will be okay.

We are looking to help support these 3 beautiful kids and their parents through this horrific accident that will takes them months to years to come back from. We are so grateful for all the communities support through this all but we know along this journey comes many of struggles and the last thing we want them to worry about right now is the financial side of things.

UPDATE: James passed away on August 19th and now the funeral planning is going on and navigating a new world without the aide of James. Please help us support Jess and the kids in anyway possible!
