Aid for Keyda
Hello my name is Julie Woodbury and I am starting a GoFundMe page for my brother Brian and his husband Josh’s beloved dog Keyda. She has been an integral part of the family since her arrival 8 years ago and is truly their “fur baby”. On Thursday, Keyda became ill with “flu” like symptoms. On Saturday, she was taken to the emergency vet where she remains in the hospital on an IV and is receiving continued testing and antibiotics. Currently they know that her liver and her kidneys are not functioning properly, but continue to do tests to find the problem. The recovery will be long and they still aren’t certain of the cause. The estimated cost is between $4,000 and $8,000. It’s a decision between saving a family member and being practical that I personally would not want to make, so I am trying to help. Please help us help Keyda.
****UPDATE*****
Over the weekend the vet has been pushing fluids and giving antibiotics. They are testing for leptospirosis and the alternative toxic or poisoning. Her kidney numbers are normal and liver numbers have improved slightly but still not near where they need to be. She is still not eating. They will be giving her food enticing drugs to see if she will eat after more tests today. She will be getting an ultrasound today by a specialist and remains in the ICU. Will update with more information as we receive it.
***Update****
The vet called this morning and let us know that Keyda is still doing better. They continue to push fluids and antibiotics. Currently still waiting on the leptospirosis test to come back. She is eating like a champ so that is a good sign. He liver numbers went back up yesterday but the vet feels she is still heading in the right direction. They will be discharging her this morning as they feel she will heal better at home. She still has a long way to go. Blood draws will need to be made every few days then every few weeks. Oral meds will need to be given for at least the first two weeks and regular check ups. If she surpasses all of those tests then these things will become less frequent. Positive of the day she is coming home. Please keep her in your prayers and send good vibes her way. Any form of contribution is certainly well appreciated at this time. Even if it is just sharing this post. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
**Update**
Keyda has been at home for a few days now. She continues to eat and drink her water. Wants nothing to do with her dry food yet, so chicken it is. She will need a blood draw every few days to ensure she is moving in the right direction. She has been a little more mobile the last few days but not nearly as much as she was prior to this. We know that this will take time. She continues to take her medication to make her better. Otherwise she mostly lays around to rest which is a good thing to get her strength back up. Thank you all for your continued support and live it’s greatly appreciated.
