Long Island Bartender Matthew ‘Matty’ Moran Needs Your Help
Hi. My name is Joe Moran, Paul to my close family, and I am hoping to raise funds to support my brother Matthew, known as Matty. Matt spent most of his adult life as a bartender around Long Island, New York, and worked hard to become, as he once told our mother, “the world’s best bartender.” Decades spent on his feet behind the sticks, however, all but ruined his hip, eventually requiring surgery. Without health insurance, and as an Army veteran, Matt had to rely on the Veterans Administration. He went in for surgery in September of 2020, and here is where his troubles began. After surgery, while being transferred to a rehab facility, he was dropped! The fall resulted in further damage to his hip as well as to his back. He spent the next several months bedridden, in constant pain before another surgery, this time more extensive due to damage from the fall, could be accomplished.
Since his second surgery and months-long recovery and eventual release, Matt is constantly in hip and back pain, necessitating his return to the VA Hospital for treatments several times a month. His overall health has greatly deteriorated. Matt is 75 years old and cannot stand or walk for more than a few minutes; he cannot work. His only income is Social Security, which is currently being cut by the government to help pay for his medications. He was on Meals on Wheels but now gets food stamps. He has food and a small house on a canal in Amityville, NY, but his house is threatened now because he is about $15,000 in arrears on his property taxes, he needs a new roof, and he is in need of more than $2,000 in dental work. His car, which he needs to travel to the VA, is literally falling apart, and he struggles to maintain it in order to pass inspection for his registration.
I love my brother. I am almost 78, live in Michigan, and do not travel well, so I can’t be there to help him. I have sent him money to help out, but he needs much more support than I can give him. I appreciate you taking time to read this and ask you, please, to help him out in any small way that you can.
