Maui fire relief aid for my family Richter
Donation protected
Aloha!
This is Jay and I have set this up to help my sister and brother in law who lost Everything in the recent fires in Lahaina, Maui.
This is a difficult time for many that will need to rebuild from scratch. Thank you to those who have reached out in any of the ways. Through some of these correspondences we received requests to set up a GoFundMe to be able to provide Joy and Mike with some assistance.
Joy is currently in the hospital suffering from burns and smoke inhalation recieved while waiting for aid from first responders. She watched her car explode and was pelted by glass and shrapnel while in the rough ocean that evening evading the heat from the devastation unfolding before her eyes. This was not an easy feat as she is recovering from recent spinal fusion surgery. Mike had been helping the Napili Point deal with the severe winds when he received the news of the extreme happenings in Lahaina.
Putting a financial number on this trama is impossible! Anything you can do to help them rebuild is Most Appreciated!!
A note from Joy 9/1/23:
To even try to express my life in the last few weeks is utterly impossible! There are no words to describe my feelings. Only those whom survived with me (probably 100 just where I was) can get it. I definitely have a long road ahead of me with mental, physical and emotional pain, not to mention all of our losses! I’m completely overwhelmed and devastated. Not only are we having to accept the loss of JP, we have to deal with the aftermath of losing someone we loved dearly. Trying to overcome physical pain (I had 2 major back surgeries in the last 1 1/2, including fusion) that climbing over rocks and and holding on for dear life literally in the ocean for hours during high tide didn’t help. Trying to save myself JP (blind mind you) and our dog Bacon. Then we have to deal with all the other adulting, mortuary, mortgage stuff, replacing all of our birth certificates, social security cards and so many things you never even think of. You’re entire life is gone in the blink of an eye! Little things like scissors, toothbrushes, shampoo (when you’re hair is singed and comes out in clumps conditioner is a wonderful luxury). I’m lucky that I survived, I have been extremely fortunate to have people who love me and I will be forever grateful to each and everyone of you whom have reached out in so many ways. Thank you all for your kind words, prayers, donations and most of all LOVE! It has not gone unnoticed! You are all helping me heal from a horrific trauma that has forever changed me. I literally walked out with the clothes on my back, a few pieces of jewelry I had on and my purse that lost almost all its contents in the ocean. Still I have more than many other survivors and for that I have to remind myself to be grateful. My life will never be the same. I have been humbled, learning to accept the generosity from others is my new normal (I still fight it, I’m used to taking care of myself and others). At this point in my life though I’m so appreciative of the generosity, kindness, compassion, support and selflessness of others! We will be okay, we will get through this, and we will persevere! We love and appreciate every single thing you have all done to support our family, our community and our friends. It’s because of family and friends that we will heal! Thank you again for all the support, encouraging words and financial assistance. I have learned one huge, difficult lesson in this…. People can never be replaced and our cherished things in life are just that…things! So hold on to those who matter. You truly realize the impact you make in others lives which means more than anything, memories can not be taken from you! I love you all and don’t worry as I say “everyone needs a little JOY in their lives” I m not done spreading it yet!!!
