Aid for the Reid Family After Tragic Accident

Donation protected
To start this off, I am the daughter of my father, Pat.

Pat is at Shand's Hospital in Gainesville, FL. He has suffered a freak accident that resulted in third-degree burns over 60% of his body on Saturday, February 22nd, and was flown to Shand’s Hospital in the early Sunday morning hours. We are being told that he is not a candidate for skin grafting surgery because of his underlying conditions and his age. Early on, he had an 80-90% non-survival rate, and that has now shifted to 0% survival rate. He has now been moved to “comfort care.” Without the surgery, infection could set in. We ask for prayers and support. He has always been a fighter up until now with these burns.

Saturday night, he was standing in front of his heater inside of his pole barn – his favorite place. He was wearing pajama pants that night, which are more flammable than his ordinary jeans. This was better for him as he was recovering from vascular surgery from 2 months ago and was advised to wear loose clothing. His pants caught fire, and the fire spread fast as he was trying to pull off his garments. His garments stuck to him. In all of this, he managed to grab the hose pipe and bring it in the pole barn to put out the fire as he was thinking about me, in which was a time I was alone in the house. Afterwards, he came to me stark naked, banging on my window for help. This is when a traumatic experience occurred for me, and I immediately called 911. He was worried that the fire would have spread. He is commendable even in his worst of moments.

Pat has been in the hospital since December 8th. He has been back and forth from the hospital to inpatient rehab, resulting in only being home for a day and a half in between all these times. He finally came home February 13th and was home a full week enjoying life and recovering. He was talking about all the things he wanted to do and had to get done. From the time he got back, he was on the go in his red truck hitting the road. Then on that horrible fateful weekend of February 22nd, everything was taken from him with these burns. This was such a horrible circumstance, I feel like his life has been cut short from us, his family, and friends.

We are going to set up a GoFundMe page to assist in our current lodging, food, gas, and upcoming funeral expenses. As we are told he has a 0% survival rate. This has been devastating news to myself and my family We are mentally and physically exhausted in all the ways you would think of. We ask if you would consider making contributions to us that would help us as we are in need of this. We also ask for continuous prayers for Pat and our family. Thank you so much in advance to anyone who reaches out to us.

To conclude this story – Pat served in the military, in the Navy branch. Not only is he a soldier, but he tops it off with being a fighter, spouse, savior to me, father, brother, and most importantly, a friend to many. Pat is for one a person that lived a passionate, resilient life in all that he did. He is always full of jokes and has a humorous personality. He has a love for fishing, boats, cars, and motorcycles. Always looking forward to the next project that was on the horizon to tinker with.

I appreciate any of you that reads upon this story. God Bless!

Sincerely,

Alyssa Reid & The Reid family
