Support Kaedan's Journey to Full Recovery

Hello, my name is Monique Everhart. Whether you choose to donate to this cause or not, I truly appreciate you taking the time to read our story. Our lives were changed drastically after finding out that my brother and cousin, Kaedan and Quincey, were in a horrific car accident on Sunday, October 13, 2024. The 17-year-old boys were on their way to work at Lazy 5 Ranch when they lost control of the car and were ejected into an open field on Edmiston Rd in Mt. Ulla, NC. Thankfully, a nearby man was in his yard when the accident happened and immediately contacted first responders.

By the Lord’s grace, the boys survived. However, both sustained multiple injuries and were admitted to the hospital. Quincey sustained a small brain bleed, bruised lung, missing teeth, and leg pain/weakness. He was deemed stable and has been discharged from the hospital to recover with medications, orthodontic intervention, and mobility assistance with crutches. Unfortunately, Kaedan’s injuries are more severe and complex. Aside from broken bones in his leg, which have been surgically repaired, Kaedan sustained a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) resulting in right-sided motor deficits and decreased responsiveness. His care included breathing assistance with a ventilator, brain activity monitoring, and medications to decrease swelling in his brain. Gratefully, these therapies have been discontinued, and he continues to make slow but steady progress although he remains severely obtunded. After spending 5 days in critical condition, his acuity has been downgraded, and he will soon transfer out of the neurosciences ICU to a non-critical unit. Glory be to God!

Kaedan is a high school senior scheduled to graduate with honors in June 2025. Additionally, he has aspirations and is on course to continue studies at a university here in North Carolina. He has an intense passion for football and is a proud fan of two teams: the Dallas Cowboys and the South Iredell Vikings—for which he plays on the latter as a stellar cornerback who lights up stadiums every Friday night. Those of us who know Kaedan know that, outside the football field, he is almost always donned in his cowboy boots and hat. "K-Lo," as he is affectionately known around the stables and rodeos, absolutely loves horses and line dances. Kaedan is a young man who openly expresses his faith and Christian walk. We'd like to think that he is having an intense conversation with God right now and will share this experience in his testimony later.

It is through many prayers and labors of love that Kaedan has made it this far. Furthermore, doctors are confident in his ability to recover from this traumatic event. Kaedan is young, and he is a fighter. He will need intensive therapy and top-notch care at an inpatient neuro-rehabilitation center to regain his ability to freely think, speak, and move. Any money donated will be used to pay medical bills, secure interim housing for his family (as he may need to travel to an out-of-state rehab facility), and fund his recovery. Any amount you’re willing to contribute is greatly appreciated, and if you aren’t able to contribute at this time, a share with your friends and family would mean the world to us as well. Please help us get Kaedan back to the God-fearing, ball-playing, outdoors-loving, joking, kind, and loving version of himself! Most importantly, please continue to #PrayforKae and claim a better-than-best recovery.

With much gratitude,
Monique
