Aid Keith Lamb's Home Adaptation and Care

Donation protected
As many of you may know, my father, Keith Lamb, experienced an acute stroke on September 19. It has significantly affected the left side of his body, his ability to swallow and his speech. It apparently has had very little impact on his cognitive abilities. Go dad!
It has been a very difficult road to recovery. At one point in time we thought he was going home to meet his heavenly father. He would have rejoiced in that, by the way.
In a way that my father does so many things, he has worked really hard in his different therapies to make as strong of a recovery as he possibly can. With significant assistance, he has made progress in his ability to stand and to take a few steps. He has had improvement in his speech. He continues to struggle to swallow. He aspirates his food and drink constantly, which creates complications with his lungs, potentially leading to pneumonia. He has already had pneumonia once.
My siblings (Karen, Andrew and Aaron) have jumped in to help in every way we possibly can. One of us is at the hospital almost always. We are very supportive of dad as he navigates the emotional ups and downs of his recovery. All of us have engaged, either physically or financially (or both) in preparing the house for him to return home. While his VA benefits and Medicare coverage have been helpful, there a few things that will fall between the cracks. That is where you come in.
Dad’s bedroom is not properly suited for him to return to. EMS is unable to get to it with their equipment. So, we are moving him to the front of the house and retrofitting his library to accommodate his medical bed, transfer chair, and other medical equipment. In order to do this, we are having to remove all of the carpet in the hallway and library to put down solid surface flooring. Because the floors in their home are well over 30 years old, we can no longer match up the flooring and are having to replace the entire area. Although we are going with the least expensive option, the cost is still considerable for the area needed. We are also planning to enclose the library for his privacy. It is currently open to the kitchen and living room. We are also in need of some medical equipment that will not be covered by the VA or available through Dietert center.
We want to be smart about this. My dad has immediate needs, but we know that we also are looking forward to meeting the needs that my mother may have in the future as well. So we want to be wise about how we do the renovations so that they work long-term for whatever needs may arise for either one of them.
Dad is in the process of transferring to a local rehab facility for a temporary stay. He will be there for a couple of weeks in order to give us enough time to prepare the house for his arrival.
We know that so many of you all over the world are praying for my father. Please know how much we all appreciate all of your love and prayers. It has had a tremendous impact on our family, and of course on my mother and father. We ask for your continued prayers during this season.
This GoFundMe is another way you can help if you so desire. Everything helps!
