Aid Kiana Barnes Through Surgery and Recovery

Hi everyone,

I’m Julian Chavez, founder of Boos Cruise, a community organization that has grown and thrived because of the incredible people involved—especially our leader, Kiana Barnes. I met Kiana when she was just a member of the collective, and over the past two years, she has stepped up as a driving force behind Boos Cruise. Her leadership, resilience, and dedication have kept this community alive and thriving, even when I had to move from LA to Brooklyn.

Now, Kiana needs our support.

In December 2023, Kiana suffered a fully torn ACL, and since then, she’s been navigating the painful and difficult process of trying to get the care she needs through a system that hasn’t made it easy. After nearly a year of being shuffled between specialists and dealing with countless delays, her reconstructive ACL surgery is finally scheduled for January 17, 2025.

On top of this, Kiana’s car broke down in October 2024, leaving her with no reliable transportation. This has turned her 1.5-hour drive to work in West LA into a grueling 2.5-hour commute on public transportation. Between her job working with children and leading meetups for Boos Cruise, she has pushed through an unimaginable amount of physical and emotional strain.

As Kiana prepares for surgery and the recovery that will follow, she will be facing at least two weeks of unpaid leave, as well as the added challenges of being in a knee brace for 4–6 weeks. We’re asking for your help to raise $3,000 to ease her financial burden during this time.
