About Me Story for GoFundMe
I am Portia Wood and our family has called Altadena/Pasadena home for over 80 years. My mother’s family made their way to Los Angeles from Texas more than a century ago, and since then, this community has been the foundation of our lives. We have deep roots here, built on love, hard work, and service to our neighbors.
The Eaton Fire has brought unimaginable devastation to our community. Friends and family have lost everything, and my brother’s family is among those affected. My brothers’ shop, which was the source of his livelihood as the primary breadwinner, was completely destroyed in the flames. With no immediate timeline for repair or reopening, their family is struggling to make ends meet.
Even in the face of this tragedy, rent and bills are still due. As small, minority business owners in this community, they need our help to get through this crisis and begin to rebuild.
I know there are many causes and people in need right now, but if you’re able, please consider contributing. Any amount, no matter how small, will make a difference. Together, we can support them in rebuilding not only their business but also their hope for the future. Funds will be used toward everyday living expenses.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and kindness during this difficult time.
