Help my Family Get Through The Devastating Tragedies

Friends, family, neighbors, and strangers. I am creating this page to help my cousin and her family get through the unimaginable tragedies that have occurred in our family in such a short span of time. As some of you may already know, back in October, we lost my uncle to multiple organ failure. He left behind his wife, who he met when they were just teenagers, his two adult children, and 3 beautiful grandbabies. To the rest of his family, his nieces and nephews, in-laws, and others, this hit just as hard as he was an amazing family man who always brought a smile to our faces.

A couple of months after his loss, and in the middle of grieving still, my cousin (his daughter) ended up in the ER due to abdominal pain. After they ran tests and blood work, they gave her the worst news possible. She has cancer in her blood. Burkitt lymphoma, which is a rare and fast-growing type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. This is an aggressive form of cancer and treatment needs to begin now and we will be required to pay out of pocket until we can get her insured.

To make matters worse, this past Sunday, January 5th, while entering the trailer that my uncle and aunt bought when they first came to the US, my cousin's brother realized it was filled with smoke. As he opened the door and the light was turned on, he realized his dog was in the cage passed out. As he dragged him out to the porch, the flow of oxygen and air coming in through the front door ignited the fire again. Rocket, my cousin's dog, passed away from smoke inhalation. And as they watched the fire grow bigger and bigger, they realized there was nothing they could do. The house is now gone and all of the memories and sentimental value of that house are as well.

Tragedy after tragedy, my aunt has had to hold her head high and be the rock that her kids need. As her family, we have all been there and helped as much as we can and will continue to do so until we get through this. We know and trust that my cousin will get through chemo and be cancer-free, no matter how long it might take.

We are at a point where we are humbly asking for help to pay for her treatment, the cost of dealing with the aftermath of the fire and to help support them all while she is unable to work.

Estoy creando esta página para ayudar a mi prima y a su familia a superar las tragedias inimaginables que han ocurrido en nuestra familia en tan poco tiempo. Como algunos de ustedes ya saben, en octubre, perdimos a mi tío por una falla orgánica múltiple. Dejó atrás a su esposa, a quien conoció cuando eran adolescentes, a sus dos hijos adultos y a tres hermosos nietos. Para el resto de su familia, sus sobrinos, sus suegros y otros, esto fue un golpe tan duro como el de él, ya que era un hombre de familia increíble que siempre nos hacía sonreír.

Un par de meses después de su pérdida, y todavía en medio del duelo, mi prima (su hija) terminó en la sala de emergencias debido a un dolor abdominal. Después de que le hicieran pruebas y análisis de sangre, le dieron la peor noticia posible. Tiene cáncer en la sangre. Linfoma de Burkitt, que es un tipo de linfoma no Hodgkin poco común y de rápido crecimiento. Se trata de una forma agresiva de cáncer y el tratamiento debe comenzar ahora y tendremos que pagar de nuestro bolsillo hasta que podamos conseguir un seguro.

Para empeorar las cosas, el pasado domingo 5 de enero, al entrar en el remolque que mi tío y mi tía compraron cuando llegaron por primera vez a los EE. UU., el hermano de mi primo se dio cuenta de que estaba lleno de humo. Cuando abrió la puerta y se encendió la luz, se dio cuenta de que su perro estaba desmayado en la jaula. Cuando lo arrastró hasta el porche, el flujo de oxígeno y aire que entraba por la puerta principal encendió el fuego nuevamente. Rocket, el perro de mi primo, falleció por inhalación de humo. Y mientras veían que el fuego se hacía cada vez más grande, se dieron cuenta de que no había nada que pudieran hacer. La casa ya no está y todos los recuerdos y el valor sentimental de esa casa también.

Tragedia tras tragedia, mi tía ha tenido que mantener la cabeza en alto y ser la roca que sus hijos necesitan. Como su familia, todos hemos estado allí y ayudado tanto como hemos podido y seguiremos haciéndolo hasta que superemos esto. Sabemos y confiamos en que mi prima superará la quimioterapia y estará libre de cáncer, sin importar cuánto tiempo lleve.

Estamos en un punto en el que humildemente pedimos ayuda para pagar su tratamiento, el costo de lidiar con las secuelas del incendio y para ayudar a mantenerlos a todos mientras ella no pueda trabajar.

Nuestro más sincero agradecimiento a todos los que ayudan y que Dios los bendiga en esta vida y en la próxima.
