Aid Needed for Bladder Cancer Fight

Donation protected
Some of you reading this may know me well, some may know me as an acquaintance, and to others, this may be our first meeting. I am retired, but I remain deeply involved in the arts—media, glasswork, and more. Much of my time has been spent at 57 Rockwell Place, downtown Brooklyn, where you’ll find BRIC Art’s Media and Urban Glass studios. To help you get to know me better and learn about my work, I’ve included a few links below.

Unfortunately, life has presented me with an unexpected and difficult challenge. In October 2024, I was diagnosed with bladder cancer. I struggled to process this diagnosis, as it was a complete shock. I was admitted to NYU Langone for a bladder ablation, a procedure intended to scrape away some of the cancer cells. However, during the procedure, an issue was discovered with the entry to my kidneys, which prevented the ablation from proceeding. The following day, I underwent a procedure on both kidneys to help maintain their health by inserting tubes, stents, and bags to divert urine from the bladder.

The tubes and stents were held in place by sharp, painful sutures that caused significant discomfort. The pain was so intense that I had to sleep in a chair for weeks. To make a long story short, I’ve spent a total of two months in the hospital and rehab, and I may have another 2 to 3 weeks left in rehab. During my first stay in rehab, I became a victim of elder abuse and neglect so severe that I had to call 911 to be transferred to the emergency room at NYU Langone for proper care. I was then admitted to NYU Tisch in Manhattan, where I received follow-up care for my kidneys, including multiple transfusions.

Currently, I’m in a nice rehab facility in Coney Island with a beautiful view of the ocean. It’s clean, has a good PT room, and the meals are decent. I’m slowly regaining some muscle tone and strength.

Why a GoFundMe?
As many of you know, I’ve always supplemented my Social Security income by working on side projects—creating art, glass, websites for small businesses, and more. Unfortunately, due to my health challenges, I haven’t been able to work on these side hustles for some time. As a result, my monthly income has been significantly reduced, and I’m now struggling to catch up on past rent and cover my ongoing household expenses.

I understand that times are tough, especially during the holidays. Let me note that there is no amount too small. If you’re unable to donate, please don’t worry—your support in sharing this message and keeping me in your thoughts and prayers means the world to me.
